Cincinnati: Phonographic Institute, 1861. Hardcover. Very good. First published in 1853, early edition, in original black leather backed decorated boards, very good, light general wear and rubbing, small hole in lower spine, contents very good. Benn Pitman, Isaac's brother, settled in Cincinnati and began to introduce his brother's shorthand method to middle America. From 1863 to 1867, he acted as the official stenographer during the trials of the assassin of President Abraham Lincoln, the "Sons of Liberty," the "Ku-Klux Klan," and other similar government prosecutions. He also edited and compiled the printed reports of these trials.
