London: Methuen, 1915. First Edition - British. First Issue title page. Ownership signature on the front free endpaper and bookplate on the front pastedown. 415 pages with 4 pages of ads dated Autumn, 1915 and 31 pages of ads dated 8/15/15 on the last ad page. With the comma after 36 Essex Street on the title page. Very good plus copy with a hint of foxing to the bottom edge, some minor darkening to the cloth, and a 1/2” faint stray pen mark to the cloth at the front board without dust jacket. The basis of two films; the first in 1919 directed by Maurice Tourneur, screenplay by Jules Furthman, starring Jack Holt, Seena Owen, Wallace Beery, and Lon Chaney. The second was released in 1940, directed by John Cromwell, screenplay by John L. Balderston, starring Fredric March, Betty Field, and Cedric Hardwick. Conrad’s classic tale of love and death on an island in the Dutch East Indies.
