About This Item
Brussels Imprimerie Royal July 1793.. First Edition. Hardback. Very Good/No Jacket. First French edition, period tree calf, gilt, spine rubbed, lettering label, Brussels, 1793. viii 144pp. Excellent original copy of a scarce work. First French edition of this "Vie de Louis XVI", initially "produced in Regensburg, by German compositors, who did not know French" and therefore "inevitably very incorrect", according to the note by the publisher, who also points out that the success of this work led to 9 counterfeit editions, but imperfect compared to this one. A biographical work that takes the side of King Louis XVI and denounces the atrocities committed against him during the Revolution
