About This Item

Secaucus, NJ: Lyle Stuart, 1980. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. Secaucus, NJ: Lyle Stuart, 1980. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 320 pages. Rare Gore Vidal collectible set. A fine copy of "Views From A Window: Conversations With Gore Vidal" with a pristine, rare copy of the 5 X 7 inch single-weight, silver-gelatin print of his portrait by the brilliant American photographer, Matthew Rolston. A keepsake, the latter shows him in closeup, one of the best such portraits of the much-photographed writer, issued to coincide with the release of his novel, "Kalki". Retrospective collection of interviews with subject. One of the best literary collections of its kind ever published in the 20th century. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run by Lyle Stuart, a small fine press, as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents "Views From A Window: Conversations With Gore Vidal". Indispensable: The pioneering precursor to numerous subsequent collections of interviews conducted by the indefatigable and consistently interesting commentator and man-of-letters. "An imaginative collection of interviews given over twenty years, full of witty, brilliant, and unconventional comments on his own life and work as well as American politics, values, and sexuality" (Publisher's blurb). Enough said. An absolute "must-have" title for Gore Vidal collectors. This title is a great collection. This copy comes with a 5 X 7 inch original silver-gelatin print of Gore Vidal, taken by Matthew Rolston. As far as we know, this is the only copy (with Original Print) of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and despite its imperfection (slight wear on DJ, but it's there) is still in fine condition overall: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Precedes and should NOT be confused with several subsequent editions. Copies available online have serious flaws or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare set thus. Recipient of the National Book Award's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 for "Distinguished Contribution to American Letters". One of the greatest writers of the 20th century. A fine set. (SEE ALSO OTHER GORE VIDAL TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0818403020.
