The text is illustrated with 15 coloured plates, 84 monochrome plates and the 45 line drawings. Coral coloured boards with gilt coloured embossed publisher's logo to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Black and white photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. The history and archaeology of the Roman settlement and fort, Vindolanda, at the edge of the Roman Empire at Hadrian's Wall. Rubbing of the book edges with fading of the top and bottom edges of the front panel and top edge of the rear panel. The titling of the dustwrapper has ghosted on to the top left hand corner of the front panel. Very light age toning of the text block edges. Minor creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing of the panels. Sunning to the back strip with moisture remnants to be seen to the lower left hand corner of the rear panel and lower right-hand corner of the rear fold over panel. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall.
