The second edition of Ida Pfeiffer's intrepid travels in the Holy Land, Egypt, and Italy, enriched with tinted plates throughout. The second edition, translated from the German by H W Dulcken. The first English edition was published only a year before in 1852.Ida Laura Pfeiffer was an Austrian explorer, one of the first female travellers, who travelled through Southern Asia, Americas, Middle East, and Africa, and also concluded two trips around the world. Her bestselling journals were translated into seven languages. This travel journal explores Egypt, Italy, and the Holy Land with much vividness and insight.Illustrated with eight coloured plates. Collated, complete with its coloured title page and frontispiece, included in the collation. In a decorative full morocco binding, with five raised bands and gauffered edges in gilt. Previous owner's gift inscription to the recto of the front blank page, dated 1927. Internally, firmly bound. Illustrated with eight tinted plates.
