About This Item

Paris: Presses Universitaires de France, 1967. First edition. Wraps. Near Fine. Small 4to. [5], 117, [2] pp. Printed, stiff yellow wrappers with lettering in black and orange, decorations in blind, and a black and orange decoration of Epimetheus and Pandora on the front wrapper, spine lettered in black. Other publications of the series, Épiméthée, advertised on the rear wrapper. Part of the series, Épiméthée, essais philosophiques, collection dirigée par Jean Hyppolite [= Epimetheus, philosophical essays, series arranged by Jean Hyppolite]. SEP, "Jacques Derrida". Hyppolite and Derrida studied together, with Hyppolite managing Derrida's doctoral thesis (which Derrida never completed). This work was one of three which Derrida published in 1967. The body of the work is Derrida's critical reading of Husserl, with significant portions of Derrida's work on phenomenology included. This text generated many responses to Derrida's criticism of Husserl, and contains the early usages of Derrida's famous concept, "deconstruction" A Near Fine example with a name on the free front endpaper and a spot of foxing to the top textblock.
