The Volga Herald was a daily public, literary and political newspaper published in Kazan, Russia, from 1884-1906. It was one of the more popular newspapers among the liberal-populist set. "The newspaper touched on acute socio-political, economic issues. The peasantry was in the center of the newspaper's attention and, in this connection, the activity of the zemstvos. Systematically published materials testifying to the difficult economic situation of the peasants, the inaction of the Zemstvos. The newspaper reported on peasant uprisings against landowners and authorities, holding the view that the path to a better future lies through 'peaceful renewal.'" – Wikipedia
