SIGNED and inscribed/dated 'For Bernard-with admiration and friendship from a sea lawyer to a real one' by author on half-title page, with place name. No stated edition or number line (1st printing). 253 p. map (on lining papers) 22 cm. Includes Maps. Dust jacket has some edgewear, now in a protective mylar sleeve. Book has minor shelfwear to the bottoms of the boards and heel of the spine. Pages have minor age darkening. Overall wonderful condition for a book this old. A Putnam Award novel about the only mutiny on an American vessel by the late president of PEN American Center, supporter of writers facing censorship, translator of Solzhenitsyn's work, and author of 'The Idealists' and 'The Jonah Man'. Rare signed. Where possible, all books come with dust jacket in a clear protective plastic sleeve, sealed in a ziplock bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a box.
