About This Item
VOYAGE AU PAYS DES BOYARDS. ÉTUDE SUR LA RUSSIE ACTUELLE. OLYMPE AUDOUARD. 1881. (4), 367, (3) pp. With wood-engravings and illustrations in the text. Bound in quarter period green morocco cloth sides and marble end papers, uncut. Copy with an autograph dedication by the author to Antatole France. Olympe Audouard was one of the most important representatives of the French feminist movement in the second half of the 19th century. Married to the notary Marseilles Henri-Alexis Audouard, their marriage ended in failure after a few years when Audouard filed for separation, accusing him of debauchery. Ascending to Paris, she met celebrities such as Théophile Gautier, Lamartine, Jules Janin. She demanded an infinite number of presentations and publications in particular, next to general reforms in civil divorce and the question of the assimilation of full equality for women, including the right to vote and stand for election. She launched the humorous worldly newspaper 'Le Papillon' and 'Cosmopolitan Magazine'. She was also a great traveler, traveling to Russia and America.
