London: H. Woodfall, W. Bowyer, W. Strahan et al., 1769. Leather. Good. 8" by 5". None. A fourteenth edition of Anson's A Voyage Round the World In the Years MDCCXL, I, II, III, IV. Admiral of the Fleet George Anson, 1st Baron Anson PC, FRS, RN (1697 – 1762) was a British admiral and a wealthy aristocrat, noted for his circumnavigation of the globe and his role overseeing the Royal Navy during the Seven Years' War. During his time in office Anson instituted a series of reforms to the Royal Navy. While Great Britain was at war with Spain in 1740, Commodore George Anson led a squadron of eight ships on a mission to disrupt or capture Spain's Pacific possessions. Returning to Britain in 1744 by way of China and thus completing a circumnavigation, the voyage was notable for the capture of an Acapulco galleon but also horrific losses to disease with only 188 men of the original 1,854 surviving. Includes three fold-out maps, one of which is detached. In a brown calf binding. Externally sound with… Read More

It is probable that Robins revised and edited the work, wrote an introduction, and added dissertations....This compilation has long occupied a… Read More
