Later early 20th century red cloth bindings with gilt stamped title on spines. Additional cream colored blank end sheets were inserted before the original blank end sheet. A previous owner's armorial book plates of Joseph W. J. Lee is located on both front paste downs. An old light blue ink address is stamped on the right front free end sheet. Old ink signature of Rob A Wainwright 1834 is written at the top of both blank end sheets. Light edge wear to cloth extremities. Previous owner Joseph W. J. Lee armorial book plate is located front paste down and address on the right front free end sheet. There is also a pencil note for instructions to the binders located towards the top of the original blank end sheet. The address stamp is Joseph Lee Needwood Forest Knoxville, Maryland. Joseph Lee was a member of Theodore Roosevelt's 71st New York Volunteer Regiment called the "Rough Riders." He served in Troop K under Captain Woodbury Kane during the Spanish-American War. He was discharged August 31st 1899 to accept a Commission. Joseph Lee was a diplomat in South America serving as an American Minister to Ecuador, Guatemala and Honduras during the Roosevelt Administration from 1905-1907.
