London, 1820. [4],106pp. plus map and six plates. Contemporary three-quarter red morocco and drab boards; rebacked with red cloth. Corners worn. Bookplate and ownership inscription on front pastedown. Light foxing, some offsetting from plates. About very good. Untrimmed. John Augustine Waller was an eminent British surgeon who traveled to the Caribbean in 1807. While there, he visited Barbadoes and took detailed notes on the state of slavery in the islands. he was also present at the British siezure of Guadaloupe. Several of the fine illustrations in this volume depict the lives of slaves on plantations. The frontispiece map shows the Leeward Islands. SABIN 101114. CUNDALL 2150
