Frontispiece: "Go slow, old man; so slow" from A Millionaire of Rough-and-Ready. 469 pgs. Collection of 5 stories from American writer, poet, and dramatist Francis Bret Harte (1836 - 1902), most for his short fiction featuring miners, gamblers, and other figures of the California Gold Rush. New York born, Harte moves to Californian, and ultimately to Europe. The tales are: 1, A Millionaire of Rough-and-Ready; 2, Devil's Ford; 3, Waif of the Planins; 4, In The Carquinez Woods; and 5, Snow-Bound at Eagle's. Strong copy despite flaws.
