Large 8vo, hardcover, no dj, as issued. Bound in black quarter-cloth over blue patterned paper-covered boards; lacking the slipcase. SIGNED by photographer Edward Steichen on rear limitation page. Vg condition. Contents crisp & clean, appears unread, no foxing or "thumbing" to pages. Binding & hinges solid with no cracking at endpaper seams. Board edges moderately rubbed, spine ends bumped w/ three tiny nicks to upper spine cloth. xiii, 290 p., illus., 16 leaves of plates.
Synopsis
Walden (first published as Walden; or, Life in the Woods) by Henry David Thoreau is an American classic. The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, and manual for self reliance. Published in 1854, it details Thoreau's sojourn in a cabin near Walden Pond, amidst woodland owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson, near Concord, Massachusetts.
