Foxing and fading to spine, a few spots of foxing to page edges, clean text throughout. German language. Comprehensive account of whaling and seal hunting at Grytviken, South Georgia. An English translation was issued in 1937 as Big Game in Antarctica. From the private collection of Eric Kenneth Prentice 'Kenn' Back, meteorologist who worked with the British Antarctic Survey for nearly 40 years, recipient of both the Fuchs Medal and the Polar Medal, and a descendent of Sir George Back, the Arctic explorer. With Back's bookplate to front pastedown endpaper. A nice solid example of the rare first edition. Spence 349. Overall condition is Very Good. Size: 5.25 x 8 inches (13 x 20 cm). Hardback.
