Four Novels Complete & Unabridged …
1. Wall of Eyes – Margaret Millar --- Author's fourth book … Millar's thoroughly stoic hero Toronto detective Inspector Sands uncovers a conspiracy while investigating a years-old car accident after the blind survivor claims that someone is trying to kill her.
The Heath family's wealth hasn't brought them happiness. One daughter, Kelsey, was blinded in a car accident, and the rest of the family tiptoes around her and avoids discussion of the tragedy that took her sight and the life of another passenger. But the passing years have only fermented the family's unhappiness.
When Kelsey is murdered, Inspector Sands is called in to investigate. His probing questions stir up a spider's nest of seedy underworld connections, vindictive lovers, and cold-blooded selfishness. It seems likely that Kelsey's murder is not the first—and as Sands gets closer to the trail of an arch villain, it becomes increasingly likely it won't be the last, either.
2. Accident, Manslaughter or Murder? – Lee Thayer --- mystery, no other details …
3. So Much Blood - Zelda Popkin --- Popkin was a popular mystery writer (she wrote seven) and novelist of the forties … This is one of the best Zelda Popkin has done. She always manages to get hold of some new tricks; this time its a new drug, one designed to stop coagulation. The young Doctor who tells the story, a victim of North Africa, talked out of turn and planted the germ of the idea at an oddly assorted houseparty, where everyone hated everyone else. The results; -- death of a psychiatrist, an attempted suicide, a smalltime panderer of stolen information run down by a truck, a millionaire shipbuilder at death's door in Union Station, Washington. Fast-pace -- good reading.
4. Nine Strings to Your Bow - Maurice Walsh --- A Main Line mystery set in the Scottish lowlands
The case of Peter Falkner, jailed, three times tried, and finally released in the murder of his uncle as it is investigated by the private detectives Glover and Madden. Madden, with Hibernian flair, disregards none of the nine suspects, including Falkner, is unable to prevent a second killing, and with Glover hunts out the killer with a certain blindness for English Law.
