About This Item

Waltham, MA: Josiah Hastings, 260 Main St, 1868. 40 x 57 cm. At Waltham Farmers' Club meeting Jan. 14 the secretary read an essay on manures-- can farmers afford to purchase and haul manures from Boston? Lengthy discussion followed on manures. A cord of manure hauled from Boston will cost about 12 dollars. Suggest that you throw Boston manure into the hogpen and let the hogs thoroughly work it over. Manures subject takes up most of front page, but there is also room for an article on the sewers of Paris, from the New York Herald. ""There is not a particle of bad smell,"" he reports. A Paris physician says that six cigars a day will shorten a man's life five years. Newspaper, very good. . Catalogs: Civil War/Newspapers/Farming.
