About This Item

New York: The Heritage Press. Near Fine. 1971. Hardcover. A deluxe, illustrated reprint edition of the 1880 novel by Henry James. "Washington Square" is one of his shorter works, and is centered around the relationship between an erudite physician and his daughter. With illustrations by Lawrence Beall Smith and an introduction by Louis S. Auchincloss. --- In coral cloth-covered boards gilt-stamped spine titling, printed on buff colored leaves; patterned brown endpapers. Volume protected in red paper-covered slipcase. Sandglass flyer laid in (Avon, no. X:36). --- A bright, clean, firm copy lacking damages worthy of mention. Slipcase w/minor sunning but remains structurally sound.; Tall Octavo (9 to 10 in. tall); xiii, 204 pages .

With a new afterword by Michael CunninghamWhat Catherine Sloper lacks in brains and beauty, she makes up for by being "very good." The handsome Morris Townsend would do anything to win her hand-even if it means pretending that he loves the homely ingenue, and cares nothing for her opulent wealth.
