About This Item
Tacoma, WA: Northwest Token and Medal Society [TAMS], 1992. Soft cover. Very Good+. Comb-bound with color illustrated front cover. Pages clean, unmarked. Illustrations are xerox quality. 20 pp. 11 x 8.5 inches. No copies noted in OCLC. Catalog of collectible advertising from Washington state saloons and bars from the years 1906-1915. (Prohibition in Washington went into effect on January 1, 1916.) Includes a few pages of introductory, background, and explanatory material. The trade mirrors (often pinback buttons, often depicting pretty girls, sometimes risque) are arranged by city (Aberdeen, Ballard, Chehalis, etc.), with the name of the issuing saloon or bar, and when available information on the operation, location, and proprietor of that establishment is also supplied. Mirrors were a part of a large family of advertising giveaways handed out in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They are now very rare due to the fact that they were struck in much smaller quantities (compared to trade tokens) and that they were not very durable.
