A novel about a group of four West Indian artists living in contemporary London and a literary exploration of West Indian identity. George Lamming (1927-2022) was a novelist, essayist, and poet of mixed Afro-Barbadian and English parentage who was born and raised in Barbados. He held a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1955, and two years later was the winner of the Somerset Maugham Award. He lectured around the world, including as a distinguished visiting professor at Duke University and a visiting professor in the Africana Studies Department of Brown University. In April 2012, he was chair of the judges for the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature.
