Watercolor of Julius Baker, head flute NY Philharmonic by Beach [Porter], Beata [1911-2006] - 1980

1980. The painting illustrates Julius Baker playing the flute at an intimate concert in a home, a grand piano to the left, a central pillar and lovely green light filtering through the windows. Julius Baker was a member of the New York Philharmonic from 1965-1983. Baker lived on Enoch Crosby Rd near the Old Southeast Church, Route 22, Brewster.

The artist was born in Rome, Italy in 1911, lived in Florida and Putnam Valley NY and died about 2006. She was the daughter of Chester Beach and Eleanor Hollis Murdock. Chester was a successful sculptor very involved in the NY art scene. His monumental figural groups "Primitive", "Medieval", and "Modern Progress" were exhibited at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915, for which he received a Silver Medal, one of the many awards he received over his career.
