About This Item
Claude Levi-Strauss's book is a vivid illustration of his provocative structural approach to tribal art and culture. He uses as a focal point the Swaihwe mask found in British Columbia. Bringing to bear on the Swaihwe masks his theory that mythical representations cannot be understood as isolated objects, Levi-Strausss began to look for links among them, as well as relationships between these and other types of masks and myths, treating them all as parts of a dialogue that has been going on for generations among neighbouring tribes. A provocative and entertaining read, punctuated by many black and white and colour photos.
Book is clean and tight, pages are very clean and bright, no markings or creases. Dust jacket is price unclipped and in VG condition just some shelfwear at the extremities mostly at the top edges but otherwise in excellent condition with minimal wear. All now protected in professional clear book wrapper. 249 pp with B&w and colour plates. See all photos.
