About This Item

New York: W.W. Norton & Company. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. (c.1977). First Edition. Hardcover. 0393075109 . [a touch of spotting to edges of text block, no significant wear; jacket shows only light surface wear]. (B&W photographs) Like the subtitle says: a memoir of by one-half of one of Hollywood's great husband-and-wife screenwriting teams (the author's other half having predeceased him). Their daughter, Nora Ephron, reminisces warmly about her mother in the book's Epilogue -- although later on the truth emerged (acknowledged quite openly by Nora and her sisters) about Henry and Phoebe's troubled marriage, and exposed the book as something of a whitewash. A 2013 Salon article, which appeared after Nora's death, calls the book "seductive and strange," and cites Henry's "devastating infidelity" to Phoebe as well as Phoebe's "full-bore drinking" which eventually led to her hospitalization for cirrhosis. .
