About This Item
Loomis, himself an Arctic adventurer, tells the remarkable story of Charles Francis Hall, a 19th century businessman who abandoned his career, left behind his family and embarked on an extraordinary expedition to the Arctic without any experience or specialist knowledge. In all he made three sorties, beginning with an under-financed search for the lost Franklin expedition and ending in a disastrous attempt to reach the North Pole. Hall himself died during that attempt, possibly poisoned. Ninety seven years later his body was exhumed after its burial in the Arctic, and the author was present at the autopsy. A remarkable and fascinating tale
A very nice copy. Pages are clean and bright with some light tanning on edges and some natural dust marking on the top edge. Boards are tight and clean. DJ is unclipped and in a very good state with just minor shelfwear. Now covered in a professional removable clear cover. See photos. 370 pp. with B&W illustrations, bibliography
