About This Item
New York, NY: Bantam Books, 1989. First Edition, First Printing . Soft cover. Collectible - Very Good/None as Issued. Text/NEW & Bright. Soft cover/VG w/rubs to corner tips & light shelfwear. Debut novel of Maud Carol Markson. A novel of a New York family mirroring the vast, American landscape littered with connubial fatalities. Narrated in the first person by Annie whose much-divorced parents have left her with no talent for commitment, but with a wistful desire for it nevertheless. Annie drifts first into marriage and then into a series of affairs; her husband has a nervous breakdown; her brother sleeps with their father's beautiful young wife; meanwhile, the reader wonders why any of this had to happen. Annie begins by declaring: "In my family we are all disposable .." Annie is unfaithful, her father is on his 4th marriage, and her brother is sleeping with their new stepmother --- not good.
