This collection of short stories is, like Rawlings's Pulitzer Prize winning 1938 novel The Yearling, about "the Florida scene and Florida people" (front flap). It includes "Gal Young Un", her first widely successful work of fiction, which won the inaugural O. Henry short story prize in 1933 and was made into a film of the same name in 1979, directed by Victor Nuñez. Octavo. Original green cloth, spine and front cover lettered in black and blocked in gilt, fore edge untrimmed. With dust jacket. New Jersey bookseller's ticket of Traver's on rear pastedown with offsetting to facing page. Spine sunned, light rubbing to ends and corners, covers and rear free endpaper slightly foxed. A very good copy in like jacket, foxing to head of rear flap with chip to head of fold, short closed tear to head of spine, edges a little nicked and creased.
