B&W photographic plates ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 472 pages; This is both a family history and a personal history. First there is a brief history of the influential Eberstadt family in Germany from the 1600s in a Jewish ghetto throught to the rise of the Nazis and the family's escape to England. He tells of the branch of his family that was trapped in the Netherlands and Belgium and their correspondence which was all that survived. Finally he chronicles his personal experiences from Germany to wartime Britain where he served in the British army 1940-46 and finally to the US where he built a life starting in 1951. .
