David Bogue, [1848] 1848. 1st Edition. Softcover. VG/VG+. First Edition, First issue, in 6 original monthly parts in original pale yellow paper wraps. Parts I-III each with [16]publisher's ads and 2 black and white illustrations at the front. Part I 48pp, Part II 49-96pp, Part III 97-144pp. Part IV [8]pp ads with small booklet [16pp] publishers ads inserted, and 2 black and white illustrations 145-184pp. Part V [1]ads 1 black and white illustration 185-232pp. Part VI 233-271[1], [2]ads [6]pp containing Title page, dedication and list of plates. All contained within a cloth chemise and contained within a morocco covered solander box with raised bands and gilt titles to the spine and gilt line borders front and rear. The box is signed by C J Sawyer Ltd. Some light dust staining to the wraps, part II with a couple of closed tears to the front edge, Part IV with a brown stain on the rear cover 3.5 x 2.5 cm. All the copies have had some repairs and restoration to the spines and these are most evident on parts IV and V. Some one has pencilled in the part in which each illustration appears on the list of illustrations. The cloth chemise has a little splitting at the folds. The signed solander box has a small nick on the front joint of the third compartment and three scratches and one ding on the rear cover.
