About This Item

New York: Atheneum, 1962. First edition. Very good plus in very good plus jacket.. Signed first printing of Albee's greatest work, the Tony award-winning play and the basis for the film starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. This play about a drunk couple's dinner night with a new couple at the university brilliantly proves that dialogue can be just as physical as action. "Cruel and vicious [...] and damaging," as Nick says in Act Two. 8.25'' x 5''. Original black cloth, author's name blind-stamped on front board, silver-lettered spine. In original unclipped ($5) white typographic dust jacket designed by Harry Ford. Red topstain, gold endpapers. [12], 242, [2] pages. Signed by Albee on half title. Bit of fading to topstain, some mild soil to fore-edge. Jacket lightly toned, as usual. Crease to rear panel. Sharp overall.
