In 1942, the US Navy condemned the Corsair as being too dangerous for carrier operations, but the Marine Corps proved that they could be operated safely. With few alternatives, the Royal Navy acquired more than 2000 of these US built fighter Corsair for carrier operations, perhaps losing more pilots as a result of accidents, but still achieving significant results. Based on the results by England, by 1944, the US was also using these planes, although they never lost their reputation as widowmakers. Illustrated with full color photograpsh. Index. xiii, 202 pp.
