Contents: title page, single leaf of introductory text, followed by 24 plates of pen and ink hunting cartoons, captioned below; most of the illustrations are dated 1888 [from which the date of publication is taken], some signed J.K.R. Original red cloth binding with gilt lettering to the front board, faded around edges and to the spine area, bottom left corner of front board marked, otherwise very good. Contents clean and tight, contemporary inscription to the front free end paper "Evelyn Rashleigh May you enjoy it J. Kendall Rashleigh (see provenance); faint withdrawn stamp to the front free end paper and a single stamp to the verso of the title page, otherwise unmarked. A very good copy. Provenance: John Kendall Rashleigh was born on 16 December 1872. He was the son of Reverend John Kendall Rashleigh and Charlotte Jane Rashleigh. He married, firstly on 27 May 1903, Evelyn Anne Jenkins (born in 1876 at Kensington, London, England. She was the daughter of William Henry Philips Jenkins.) He and Evelyn Anne Jenkins were divorced in 1925. He married, secondly, Jeffreys McEwen Martin, daughter of Jefferson Martin, on 5 April 1932. He died on 25 March 1960 at age 87, without issue. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Cornwall and Devon Miners' Artillery Militia. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 5th Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902. He was with South African Constabulary between 1902 and 1904. He was Special Constable, BC Police between 1912 and 1913. He gained the rank of Temporary Major in the service of the Royal Army Service Corps. He fought in the First World War, he was mentioned in despatches. He was with British forces in Egypt, Iraq and North-West Persia between 1919 and 1921. He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.). He fought in the Second World War, with the Intelligence Service..
