About This Item

New York: Putnam, 1920. Later printing. 217 pp., 8.5 x 11.25 inches. Printed cloth over boards. Disbound; see comments.

This copy of the second printing of Kent’s first book was marked up by a designer to be used as (or to accompany) setting copy for a new edition, most likely the Modern Library edition of 1930. The book has been disbound, the marked-up pages laid loose into the covers. (Note that most but not all pages are present; this is not a copy for a first reading!)

Pencil markings indicate changes for the new format and design: text width, typeface and point sizes, alignments, galley breaks, and so on, with scattered notes and notations throughout (including at least one typographical error, an upside-down letter, caught by the designer).

An unexpected and unusual survival of a process document, and clearly one-of-a-kind.
