Portrait of William Woollett; half-length, seated three-quarters to right, a burin in his hand, resting the right forearm on a plate propped at an angle under his right elbow, looking studiously towards the viewer, with an angled pane to reflect light, visible in upper right, wearing a soft hat, coat, ruffled cravat and waistcoat.
Lettered below the image with title and information about the engraver: 'Gravee par G. Kisling, Eleve de l'ecole de Gravure l'Universite de Vilno. (Planchel.)'French engraving after the original portrait engraving by John Keyse Sherwin, published in 1784.William Woollett (1735-85) was an important English 18th century line engraver.Woollett engraved several plates in Captain Cook's 'A voyage towards the South Pole, and round the World.
