About This Item

England: Hodder and Stoughton, 1939. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The is the first Cheap Edition of November 1939 with a slight spine lean. No Internal markings. The rare dust jacket displays only slight wear but has 2 faults. The dust jacket protector is taped onto the back of the jacket, the tape is not browning or brittle and the adhesive has not started to bleed through the thick paper. I have not attempted removal. The jacket appears to have has a label removed from the bottom corner of the front flap. Lovely survivor of a really scarce early printing..

The inspector is sorely tried by a wide variety of suspects, including the neglected widow, the neighbor who's in love with her, her resentful daughter, and a patently phony Russian prince preying on the widow's emotional vulnerability and social aspirations. And then there's the blackmail plot that may—or may not—be at the heart of the case...PRAISE FOR GEORGETTE HEYER:"Our Georgette Heyer display of the Sourcebooks reprints has been a huge success, not only to those early fans like myself, but to many new readers who appreciate her style and wit."Nancy Olson, Quail Ridge Books, Raleigh, NC"Reading Georgette Heyer is the next best thing to reading Jane...
