New York: Harold Vinal Ltd., 1928. Copy #25 of a Limited and Numbered, Signed 1st Edition of 700 copies, 600 of which were offered for sale. This copy INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR on the limitation page - "To Mr. Will H. Hays:- with admiration & understanding of your keen insight into the difficulties of the Motion Picture situations, & your sound principles of conscientious construction for the progress & success of Better Films. I cordially inscribe this copy - trusting you will find therein a few 'gloom chasers' in a leisure hour 'Dee Dee' April 18, 1928". Hays managed Warren G. Hardings successful campaign for the Presidency of the U.S. and was subsequently appointed Postmaster General. After a year in that position, he resigned to become most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA), which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire, inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts, and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. When the Catholic Church formed its Legion of Decency and threatened nationwide boycotts of movies, Hays installed a more formal production code, called the Hays Code( later simply "The Code"), which became the virtual law of Hollywood until the 1960s. 2 pieces of publisher's promotional material laid in, and from that "Mrs. Heflebower ("Dee Dee") is one of the National Vice-Presidents of the League of American Pen Women...She is known...for her National and State connection with Motion Picture activities." A fascinating Hollywood ASSOCIATION COPY straight from the era of the black lists ! Very Good Plus, lacking the dustjacket and boards faded at spine and at the tips. . SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR. Limited and Numbered, Signed 1st Edition. Patterned Paper Boards. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. Presentation Copy.

Dismissed by Churchill from his brief, inglorious stint as Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) in 1941, during which he was unflatteringly referred to as Dilly-Dally, Field Marshal Sir John Greer Dill (1886–1944) went on to rise, phoenix-like, to head of the British joint staff mission in Washington and senior British member of the combined chiefs of staff: he was 'an…
