About This Item

Boston, MA Houghton Mifflin Company, 1991. Paperback First Edition Thus (1991), First Printing indicated by a complete numerical sequence. First Edition Thus (1991), First Printing indicated by a complete numerical sequence. Very Good to Very Good+ in Wraps with DJ: shows indications of very careful use: just a hint of wear to the extremities; very mild rubbing to the white wrapper covers; a small soil spot at the middle of the front panels; a faint stress crease to the lower rear panel; two tiny tooth-like marks at the lower corner of the front panel; the binding leans very slightly off square, but remains perfectly secure; the text is clean. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing the very mildest wear and minor, unobtrusive flaws. Close to 'As New'. The DJ shows a small scuff spot at the lower portion of the front hinge; else only a small, very faint stain at the middle of the rear panel; the price has not been clipped. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (9 x 5.65 x 0.6 inches). 163 pages. Line Drawings by Elizabeth Hughes. Language: English. Weight: 8.9 ounces. Seymour Lawrence Books. Trade Paperback. Rick Bass transports the reader to a remote valley in Montana and convincingly portrays his love and affection for all things wild and natural. This testament to the environment never preaches yet may be one of the most powerful arguments to preserve that which is still wild. It calms the mind and stirs the spirit. Bass is a gifted author with an amazing ability to make simple pleasures (like watching the snow fall) sound irresistible to even the most restless souls. "Winter" is a masterpiece of time and solitude. Often while reading the book, I almost want to sell everything and go off to Montana, cut wood, take great adventurous hikes and happily watch the snow fall for an entire day. We're missing the point of life - and Mr. Bass has captured it in this important book.
