About This Item
New York: Macmillan, 1928. First edition. 8vo, publisher’s original forest-green cloth, the spine lettered in gilt. xi, 202 pp. A very good, very bright copy. FIRST EDITION. Hardy considered that this would probably be his last appearance on the literary stage. He has written that the poems included have been written with reasonable care, though, considering his age, not quite with the zest of a young man new to print. It had become obvious that a lifetime of excellence allowed for what might have once been considered extraordinary, to be taken as expected and normative. A collection then of fine poems, by a master at his height and greatest reputation.
