A book about the Jewish religion, both known and not so well known, along with commentaries by various authors. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with bumping, rubbing and a little fraying of the book corners. Rubbing of the book panels along with a a few handling marks. A tight, most attractive later printing of Modern Library Giant #G79, first published in 1956 but here undated (binding suggests late 1950s/early 1960s) Hefty selections from the Old and New Testaments, from between the Testaments, the Talmudic Period, Medieval Noon, Medieval Night and the Modern Period.

Thick 8vo, red cloth with black labels with gold lettering on spine and front cover, archival mylar-protected pictorial dust jacket (unclipped) withthree medallions with representations of a Torah scroll & shofar, Hanukkah candelabra, and Ten Commandments, publisher's black topstain to pages for protection, 748 pages + [6] Ads. Weight: 1 lb. 11 oz. An EXCELLENT anthology in remarkable condition for such a plump volume. Contents range from the Bible/Tanakh to "the wit and wisdom of living writers." Tight and clean copy with a remarkably complete dust jacket (not price-clipped) with slight rubbing and a few rather clean nicks. According to Toledano's guide, the dust jacket dates from 1954-60 (p.170); publication of this edition ran from 1956-70 (p.120). We conservatively date this nice copy to about 1960.
