An Encyclopedic Handbook for the Homemaker Covering Foods and Beverages--their Purchase, Preparation, & Service." A mid-20th-century classic in a whopping 1329 pages, Index in rear, illustrated throughout with pen-and-ink sketches & full-color photos. Orig. published in 1948, this is the 1949 printing of that FIRST EDITION. Hardcover 8vo has deep green cloth over boards with tile blindstamped to front cover/in gilt lettering to spine. Condition is VG- (minus): generally very clean, with the occasional smudge or spot (1 to front cover) as befits a well-used cookbook. Externally, there is rubbing to extremities, heaviest along bottom edges & all edges of spine; some cloth loss at corners & bottom edge. Pages creamy white with mild tanning, but unmarked.
