About This Item

New York City, NY: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1892. First Edition Thus. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. New York City, NY: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1892. Hardcover. Fine/None, As Issued. First Edition Thus/First Printing. 267 pages. Collection of the writer's essays. One of the greatest literary collections of all time. Limited Edition of 150 numbered copies. The 1892 "Large Paper" Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with the regular trade edition, also published simultaneously by G. P. Putnam's Sons. There is no ISBN. The Limited Edition is now rare. A fine binding production: Regular-sized volume format. The production is loving and exquisite in every respect: Luxurious brown leather boards with marbled paper middle boards, gilt lines, gilt page edges, and elaborate gilt design on the spine, as bound. Text by Charles Lamb. Edited by Ernest Dressel North. Matching marbled endpapers. Mounted Frontispiece Portrait of Charles Lamb from the original drawing by Hancock, with protective glassine overlay. Printed on handmade archival stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as re-bound. Presents Charles Lamb's "The Wit And Wisdom of Charles Lamb With Anecdotes by His Contemporaries". A treasurable fine-binding production of an indispensable collection, published towards the end of the 19th century. Gathers the pithy, quotable, and aphoristic remarks and reflections of the greatest literary critic and essayist of his time. An absolute "must-have" title for Charles Lamb collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Edition of 150 numbered copies, indicated/numbered as such ("Number 6") in red fountain on the Front Limitation Page. This title is a great collection. As far as we know, this is the only fine-binding production of the Limited Edition available online and as re-bound, is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws because the book is more than 120 years old, after all. It is precisely why the fine binding production has helped preserve, and will preserve, it for posterity. As such, it is also attractively priced. A rare copy thus. The greatest literary critic and essayist in the English language of the 19th century. A fine copy. .
