Full black leather, gilt-titled spine; binding square and tight, light shelf wear. Previous owner's notes in pencil on rear pastedown. CGSZ118-019. Very Good. LIMITED EDITION of 125 copies, printed by Wallace Nethery. Lamb's essay on popular superstitions first appeared in the London Magazine, October 1821, and contains the ironies and felicitous turns of phrase characteristic of Lamb's prose. The title-page vignette is a reduced from a woodcut in the printer's possession attributed to Thomas Bewick. Charles Lamb was an English essayist and critic in the late 18th century and early 19th century and a major figure in English literary circles of the time.
