About This Item

Soho Press, 1992. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. 225 pages. An Alaska Mystery novel. First edition (first printing). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Signed by the author on the title page.

Cecil Younger is the black sheep son of a straight-arrow family. He writes poems, drinks too much, broods about the lovely girl who left him, and works as a private investigator in the port of Sitka, Alaska. Now he is being paid handsomely to probe the ugly murder of a Native American hunting guide. It is a case that will take him from the gritty Alaskan urban lower depths to the dark heart of the northern wilderness, and from a sordid tangle of sex and greed to primitive myth and magic. It is a bitingly vivid and suspenseful journey, and he takes you with him every swift, dangerous step and leap of the way.

Synopsis

The youngest of five children, John Straley was born in 1953. He received a BA in English and a certificate of completion in Horse Shoeing. He has brown eyes and likes jokes and a wide variety of literature and music. He is the Shamus Award-winning author of The Curious Eat Themselves and The Woman Who Married a Bear and was appointed the Writer Laureate of Alaska in 2006. John Straley lives with his wife, Jan, a prominent whale biologist, in a bright green house on the beach in Sitka, Alaska, where he works as a criminal defense investigator by day and sleeps, writes, and plays with his band, The Big Fat Babies, whenever he can.
