William James Linton (1812 - 1897) was a very talented wood engraver with strong views that antagonized various elements in the art world. Printed in 500 copies, the frontispiece (with tissue guard) is presumably printed from the block being The Cave of Despair by R. Branston. No spine or back cover and front cover is detached. Staining on various pages.
