About This Item

London: Thomas McLean, 1864. First edition. First edition. Original green cloth with superb gilt illustrated cover and spine. ASSOCIATION COPY: Inscribed on front pastedown, "Mrs. E.V. Boyle from M.L.B., 1865." Thus, presented from the author to her cousin and famed illustrator Eleanor V. Boyle. Three of the photographic illustrations (of which there are six, mounted sepia) are of illustrations by Eleanor Vere Boyle. AEG. A near fine copy of an extremely scarce and important book, made even more alluring by the presentation inscription.
