About This Item
London: C. Bathurst and Eleven Others, 1770. This is Volume One only of the set, "Containing His Juvenile Poems," which happen to include his famous mock-heroic poem "The Rape of the Lock" (first published in an abbreviated form in 1717). This is a Good only copy, being partially disbound. Full leather binding with gilt rules; five raised bands on the spine. Clean text, xlv, 49 to 288 pages. Two plates, opposite the Title Page and the other opposite page 105. This is an ASSOCIATION COPY, with the bookplate on the front paste-down of William Rowe Lyall (1788-1857) who became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1845. There are condition issues: the spine has an old repair that has failed and is now separated at page 98; the rear board is present but loose; and it is rubbed at the margins. Please note these issues; Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of repairs or restoration. Due to the high quality and nice condition of the textblock, Quercus suggests this as an excellent candidate for a quality rebind, allowing it another few centuries of life.. Later Printing. Full-Leather. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
