About This Item
London: Kegan Paul, Trench, & Co., 1883 Illustrated with frontispiece of Tennyson, engraved by William Henry Mote. Later edition. Finely bound in three-quarter red morocco and cloth boards, spine and corners double ruled in gilt, spine with five raised bands, spine ruled, decorated, and lettered in gilt, blue marbled endpapers, and all edges gilt. Very good, with some soiling to boards, light wear to corners, gilt bright, light spotting to endpapers, and contemporary inscription to front free endpaper. Overall, an attractive copy with a clean interior. This volume contains the complete works of the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, who was named Poet Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland during the reign of Queen Victoria. Known for his short, lyrical verse, Tennyson is remembered as one of the greatest British poets in history. Notably, one of his earlier works, "In Memoriam A.H.H.", is the source for many commonly referred to phrases, including "Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.". Hard Cover. Near Fine.
