About This Item
This is a handsome, antique collection of eight volumes from the works of DANIEL DEFOE. 1902; J.M. Dent and Company; London. Each volume contains vignettes, as well as three full-page illustrated plates by J.B. Yeats (each plate is protected with a tissue guard). "Edition de Luxe" - Limited Edition #116 of only 250 printed ("116" is written in red ink on the limitation pages). The volumes are nicely bound in three-quarter leather with gilt top page edges and gilt on the spines, marbled covers and end papers, and ribbon page markers.
The following works are included:
* Robinson Crusoe; A Vision of the Angelic World (complete in 1 volume).
* A Journal of the Plague Year (complete in 1 volume).
* Moll Flanders (complete in 2 volumes).
* A New Voyage Round the World by a Course Never Sailed Before (complete in 1 volume).
* The History and Remarkable Life of the Truly Honourable Colonel Jacques (complete in 2 volumes).
* The Fortunate Mistress, or the Life of Lady Roxana (volume 1 only).
Condition:
The covers are clean with no notable issues found. Bright gilt top page edges. The gilt at the center of the spines has mostly dulled. Most of the spines have chipping to the leather at the top and bottom edges. All volumes are tightly bound with no loose pages. All covers are firmly attached. The pages are in overall excellent condition with only a couple minor issues found (noted here). Vol II has a small ding/dent at the left edge of the back cover. Light stain on page 66 of Vol I. Roxana has a small tear at the bottom edge of the rear end paper. Some of the ribbon page markers have left a shadow outline between pages. The page marker in Robinson Crusoe has nearly detached at the top edge. Some pages are still attached along the outer edge. Overall the collection is in Very Good- condition.
