About This Item
Works of George Eliot (18 Volumes Buckner Library Edition Hardcover Bookset) Mary Ann Evans 19th Century British Literature Fiction English Novelist Home Library Decorative
18 Volume Set of the Buckner Library Edition of works by George Eliot (pen name of Mary Ann Evans). Undated publication, circa 1900's. Published by E. B. Hall & Co., Incorporated (New York and Boston). Illustrated with black and white etchings. Brick red cloth hardcovers show wear such as heavily bumped and worn-through corners and edges, bumped spine head & tail, nicked covers, scratches, large scuffs, shelfwear, wrinkled spine backstrips, and torn spine heads and tails. Volume I of Mill on the Floss has a quarter-sized dark spot/stain on the front cover, and a nick to the foreedge that impacts the first several pages. Covers have sunfade to the spine and edges, with the spine labels being tanned, heavily faded with tears. Tanned textblocks with chips and scratches to the top gilt edge. Volumes have deckled foreedges, with some of the volumes showing torn page edges when the uncut pages were opened the first time. This is especially true on Volume II of George Eliot's Life, noticeable next to the foreedge that was heavily bumped. Some of the volumes had bookmarks and papers left inside that caused tanned areas. Hard creases throughout. There are some stray marks, mainly on the endpapers and pastedowns. There does not appear to be any writing but keep in mind, this is a large bookset and markings are possible. Overall, the bookset is in Very Good condition. Due to the weight and size of the volumes, these may ship in multiple boxes.
