London: W. Strahan, J. Rivington and Sons, T. Payne et al., 1784. Hardcover. Three quarter brown morocco, marbled endpapers and matching endpapers. Near fine. 10 vols. 22.5 x 14.5 cm. Engraved frontispieces in each volume by Colyer, a well-known engraver working in London during the later 18th and early 19th centuries who at one time was official engraver of the queen, plus additional portrait of Fielding in Vol. one. ''New edition'' of a compilation first issued in 1762 and reprinted every few years during the 18th century. Prefaced by Arthur Murphy's long biography and appreciation of Fielding, this set contains the great writer's novels, plays, journals, essays, and miscellaneous publications. Armorial bookplates of Sir Samuel Hannay, bound by Haddon & Co., New York, marginal dampstain vol. one frontispiece and Fielding portrait, raised bands, spine panel gilt floret in corners.
